It’s All About Time

       Author Unknown

Time is slow when you wait.                                         Time is free, but it is priceless.

Time is fast when you are late.                                       You can’t own it, but you can use it.

Time is deadly when you are sad.                                   You can’t keep it, but you can speed it.

Time is short when you are happy.                                 Once you’ve lost it, you can never get it back.

Time is endless when you are in pain.

Time is long when you feel bored.

Every time, time is determined by your feelings

and your psychological condition and by the clocks.

So have a good time ALWAYS!

THANK YOU TO OUR BULLETIN EDITORS LINDA RUGG and MERRILEE BURNS

ACC Corner – Joe Rochel, ACC Chairperson

Hello, my fellow Carolina Shores Community homeowners,

I want to state the obvious, Spring does seem to have arrived since the flowers are showing bright and the pollen has finally stopped, I hope. I would like to suggest to all our gardeners that this is a good time to finish trimming the shrubs that were missed this winter. Examples are the Crepe Myrtles that have not started blooming. Spring lawn fertilizer is best put down when the temperature is above 50 degrees. Two applications in the spring usually works the best.

The ACC volunteers have noticed a rise of “Request for Inspection” submissions coming into the office. Please make note that most of these requests come from Carolina Shores homeowners and require the need for the ACC volunteers to go out to investigate the issue being reported. The ACC rarely writes up a report for inspection. If the request is a valid violation, then the ACC does issue a violation letter. Please note that when you receive a letter to please respond within seven (7) days. That will help you resolve the issue quickly and fairly.

The ACC has also noticed in increase in open burning in the Carolina Shores community. There is no outside burning allowed in Carolina Shores. This restriction is found in the “Rules and Regulations” section VI “Property use and maintenance responsibilities”, Paragraph 3. Also, in the Declaration of Restriction, Section 6 “General Prohibitions and Requirements”, Paragraph 15 reads “No trash, ashes, garbage, or refuse shall be dumped, stored or accumulated on any Lot in the Subdivision.” No outside burning of wood, leaves, trash, garbage, or household refuse shall be permitted. These occurrences are a fineable offense.

JOE’S SAYING: “HELP ME HELP YOU”

Recreation Committee – Mary Ann Williams

Happy Hour in the Park

It’s time to dust off your picnic basket and cooler and join your friends and meet new neighbors at the first-of-the-season’s “Happy Hour in the Park! This fun, very informal event happens the third Friday of each month at 5:00 p.m. April’s event will be held Friday, April 21, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the POA pavilion, next to the pool. BYOB and any food items for the “sharing table” and enjoy an early evening get-together for conversation and camaraderie. There are no organized plans - just a great opportunity to meet and greet new neighbors you may not know and connect with those you do.

Memorial Day Weekend Picnic

The Carolina Shores POA annual Memorial Day Weekend Picnic returns on Sunday, May 28. Tickets will be distributed by members of the Recreation Committee from Monday, May 1, through Thursday, May 11, at the POA clubhouse (not the office) from 10:00 a.m. until noon, including Saturday, May 6, for those who work. Due to parking constraints, there is a limit of 325 tickets, so get yours early - first come, first serve! (No tickets will be issued after the deadline, and no one will be admitted without a ticket.) Tickets are complimentary to POA residents only. Due to the continued growth of our neighborhood, we will not be able to accommodate outside guests at this event.

As in the past, this year’s event will be catered by Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N’ Bar-B-Q of Shallotte. BYOB and any sweet dessert that you might want for yourself. The time will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the POA pavilion and picnic grounds, by the pool. Food will be served from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Additional information about the menu and ticket pick-up details will be included in further emails and the May bulletin.

Come join us for this fun, community-wide event!

The Carolina Shores Recreation/Social Committee is looking forward to providing these events and many more enjoyable opportunities for our residents to meet, greet and share good times! Look for details in the bulletin and emails about these upcoming events:

Our next meeting will be held April 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the POA clubhouse, 17 Lakeview Ct. The annual plant exchange will be taking place at this meeting. There is a limit of six (6) plants per member.

Our speaker for April is Amy Mead, Area Agent for Natural Resources and Environmental Education, who will speak on Stormwater Solutions.

Reservations for the May Luncheon will be taken at the April meeting. You will be able to order “off the menu” and pay for what you order. There is no set price.

The Carolina Shores Garden Club is open to anyone who has a desire to enhance their gardening skills and knowledge, or simply enjoys and appreciates the beauty of nature. It is also a great way to meet new friends and socialize.

Book Discussion Group – Susie Riggs

stack of books isolated on white backgroundThe Book Discussion Group met on Friday, March 17. We discussed two books, Sunflowers Beneath the Snow and Where the Forest Meets the Stars. Both books were highly rated by our readers. Sunflowers Beneath the Snow, written by local author, Teri Brown, is a poignant family saga set amid the struggles between Ukraine and Russia. Not only is it a fascinating tale of intrigue, religion, politics, and family devotion, but it also gives the reader a better understanding of those affected by the political turmoil of the region. Where the Forest Meets the Stars by Glendy Vanderah, is the mysterious tale of a young child who appears out of the woods in a remote area of Illinois and claims to be an alien from another planet. She claims that she has come to earth to witness five miracles. Her extreme intelligence, along with the healing effect that she has on the people who get to know her, cause the reader to wonder until the end of the book if she is indeed an alien or simply a child who has run away from a terrible home situation.

Our April meeting will be a busy one. We will begin with a discussion of banned books, with each member sharing a book that has been removed from a school or library’s collection as the result of objections from groups or individuals. Following that we will hear from local author, Teri Brown, who will tell us about her new novel, An Enemy Like Me. We will end the meeting with a pot-luck luncheon. All members are encouraged to attend the meeting on Friday, April 21, at 10:00 a.m. in the POA clubhouse. If you have not already done so, please notify Pat McKay to let her know what dish you plan to bring.

I would like to update this list. As of now, there are 59 people who had let me know they would be available to help with neighbors’ needs at times. I get few responses, mostly from the same 3-4 people. So, if you no longer wish to be on this list, please text me at 910-368-1070 or email me at dfp324@atmc.net

If you would like to stay on this list and would prefer to get notifications by email instead of through Nextdoor, please email me at dfp324@atmc.net and I will send out a group email when someone needs help in our community.

If you need help, please continue to let me know by calling the above number or my home at 910-575-6243.

Flo Pflaster

We have many volunteers on the Care Team, ready and willing to help our neighbors with temporary assistance. I will do whatever I can to find someone to help - all you need to do is call or email me!
